This is such a great idea. I have a husky that is so hyper he can't sit still in the car even on long trips. There has been times where I have had to slam on my breaks and he came barreling forward. With this I was able to buckle him in like one of the kids and not have to worry about him getting hurt or me wrecking b/c he can't sit still. I would definitely recommend this to any pet owner!
This is a big improvement over my previous dog 'seatbelt' which really was more complicated and had too short of a length. I don't want the length so long that a dog wanders all over the car and is not safe in an accident or for the driver. But the dog needs enough slack to turn around and be comfortable. This is a perfect seeming length. I like how easy it was to simply click into the seatbelt itself. And the other end has a clip that hooks to the harness. Very convenient and easy. There is nothing age appropriate to rate.
Very happy with this purchase. I have a 50lb dog and this keeps her strapped in well. Gives her enough room to move around to get comfortable but holds her in snug as a bug too :)
I like this dog seat belt because it allows my dog to be able to stand or sit. One of my other seat belts for her only allows her to sit. I just clip the seat belt part into my seat belt holder (Infiniti G35) and the other side clips to her harness that I purchased separately. As you can see by the picture, I have a front attaching harness for her. DO NOT attach this to a dog's collar. I do have her leash attached to her collar in the pic, but that's only because we had just gotten into the car. The blue is her harness and the black in the front is the dog set belt. The orange with bones is her actual leash. I like that the seat belt is adjustable so I can make sure its properly adjusted so she cannot go too far forward.
I purchased a two-pack of the Vastar Pet Seat Belt (we have two cars). They are simple to use and work very well to keep your pet secure in the back seat vs. running free in the car. You should use this with a pet harness so the seat belt does not pull on the dog's neck if it were attached to a collar. I have a Nissan Pathfinder and a Hyundai Santa Fe and the Pet Safety Belt simply snaps into the seat belt lock. (This works on the outside seat belts, not the middle belt). The hardware appears very strong as does the nylon belt. The restraints work great to keep your pet from jumping into the front seat or over the back seat. I am not sure that this would protect your pet from a bad accident since they are not constrained tightly like a human using a seat belt. In my opinion, they would "fly" a little more than you think but it would definitely keep them secure much better than roaming free. I would buy these again.
